SLEEP APNEA AND SNORING
Sleep-disordered breathing varies along a spectrum from mild snoring, which is an annoyance, to obstructive sleep apnea, which can cause serious health issues. We can perform a simple, at-home sleep study to determine the severity of a patient’s condition. Using a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) mask at night is curative for both snoring and sleep apnea, but CPAP is not tolerated by all patients. Surgery to reduce the size of the palate and tonsils (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) along with surgery to relieve nasal obstruction can improve sleep disordered breathing. Sometimes, a quick and painless office procedure is enough to eliminate a patient's snoring.
HOME SLEEP STUDIES
Obstructive sleep apnea can be diagnosed in the comfort of home. Patients bring home a sleep study kit after a brief appointment . That night, they sleep in their own bed with 3 unobtrusive, comfortable sensors. The next day, our office will download and analyze the data from the sensors to make a diagnosis.
